In this article, you'll learn how to collaborate with your colleagues and counterparties on suggested changes to the contract before it is signed.

Note: This article applies when all parties have access to the contract. For an explainer on how to access a contract you've been invited to, click here.

Benefits of Using Comments and Redlining in Flou

Traditional contract negotiations involve lengthy email exchanges and multiple document versions, leading to confusion and errors. This process is time-consuming and can result in signing the wrong version of a contract. Here are four ways Flou solves this problem:

  1. Streamlined Communication: All comments and suggestions are in one place, making it easy to track changes and responses.

  2. Enhanced Collaboration: Everyone involved can see and respond to comments and suggestions in real-time, reducing misunderstandings.

  3. Error Prevention: By preventing signing until all comments and suggestions are resolved, Flou ensures that all parties agree on the final version of the contract.

  4. Time-Saving: Flou's system reduces the back-and-forth typically involved in contract negotiations, speeding up the process.

Using Flou's comments and redlining features helps you collaborate more effectively, avoid errors, and save time in the contract negotiation process

How to comment and redline in Flou

Step 1 – Access the Contract:

Once you've accessed the contract, click on "Review and Sign" in the upper right corner or hover over any section, clause, or text to start adding comments or suggesting changes.

Step 2 – Add Comments

When you make a comment, it will appear on the right side of the screen in the comment log. All parties can reply to comments here.

Step 3 – Suggest Changes (Redline)

When you suggest a change, it will appear on the right side of the screen as a suggestion. This redline feature can replace an entire section, clause, or text if the contract owner (the person who created and sent the contract) accepts it.

Commenting and redlining prevent parties from signing until all suggested changes are resolved. This avoids back-and-forth or signing the wrong version.

Email Notifications

Every time someone adds a comment or suggest any change, the counterparty will receive an email notification that looks like this.

For the Contract Owner

The contract owner will see all comments and suggestions on the right side of their screen. They have the option to reply to or resolve a comment. For suggestions, they can reply, accept, or reject the redline.
